2018 Lunar New Year Celebrations

Tết (Lunar New Year) is the biggest holiday of the year in Vietnam – how are you going to celebrate it? Check out the suggestions below:

1. Vietnamese New Year Festival
22 Jan – 24 Feb 2018, 8 am – 5 pm

Celebrations of Vietnam’s New Year (Tết) will be held at the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long during January 22 – 27, 2018. This is where children get to know more about the traditional New Year holiday through archives of the French museum Albert Kahn, and wood carvings by Henri Oger that depict traditional Tết rituals and ceremonies. They can also enjoy traditional games and performances, and traditional paintings of different genres such as Đông Hồ, Hàng Trống, Kim Hoàng. Several other rituals, ceremonies and cultural performances will also take place.

2. Vietnamese New Year Fair 2018

3. Eco New Year Fair “The Quintessence of Three Regions in Vietnam”

4. Exhibition “Tuất Dome 2018”

An annual showcase of paintings, sculptures and ceramics for sale to welcome the New Year, organized by the artist group G39.

5. Calligraphy Exhibition “Stroke of Spring – Art of Nôm”
02 Feb – 02 Mar 2018
Vietnam Fine Arts Museum
66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi

An exhibition of 50 calligraphy works by authors and researchers of calligraphy and Nôm – a logographic writing system formerly used to write the Vietnamese language – inspired by poems about the New Year and Spring by the late President Ho Chi Minh and famous figures such as Tran Nhan Tong, Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Huy Luong, Nguyen Du,… There will be calligraphy demonstrations and a calligraphy workshop for pupil at the opening of the exhibition.

6. REAL TET Festival
03 and 04 Feb 2018

7. New Year Fair 2018 – “The Colors of Traditional Vietnamese Tet Market”

8. New Year Fair for the Less Fortunate
03 – 04 Feb 2018, 8 am – 6 pm
Thong Nhat Park
Tran Nhan Tong, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi

New Year Fair for the Less Fortunate (including people living in poverty, patients, the homeless, the disabled, people with difficult circumstances) is organized by the goodwill group “Ngoi truong uoc mo va nhung nguoi ban” (Dream school & Friends). Each participant will be given a card with all information about the fair location, helpline number. The card will have 10 boxes to be ticked, each box equals 50,000VND. They can then choose the products that they want or need, and give the card back to the organizers when they finish shopping.

 

9. Charity Fair “Traditional New Year Fair”
Sun 04 Feb 2018, 8 am – 9.30 pm

Charity Fair “Traditional New Year Fair” with more than 40 booths with many choices of goods for the Lunar New Year occasion. The booths are made by charity groups and friends with quality goods with reasonable prices. The fair is also a place to enjoy new year fair – the traditional way with activities, games, folk art. 10. Giang Vo Spring Fair 2018
Opening: Mon 05 Feb 2018, 7.30 pm
Fair: 06 – 12 Feb 2018, 9 am – 9 pm

11. Vietnam Regional Specialties Fair

An annual event taking place at Literature Lake (part of the Temple of Literature) which offers live calligraphy demonstration, hands-on experience of Vietnam’s traditional crafts, folk games and other cultural activities.
